Day 9 - I Could Never Give That Up!

Galatians 5:22-23 (New International Version, ©2011)

22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

  Hi Dolls,

I know it's not technically Day 9 of this journey, but I think sometimes you need a few days to meditate on all this great info.

Let's be honest....this is a true statement that I am sure we all have said to ourselves at one time or another.  If you haven't then you are a better woman than I.  I have said that I could never give that up!  I could never give up cookies, chocolate cakes (seriously...look at that frosting), or red meat.  Why?  Because self-control is very hard, old habits are hard to break and these foods bring me comfort, plus I was relying on my own weak self!  Once I started apply these principles and allowing God to work in my life.  I have had an easier time limiting my sugar and red meat intake.

According to the Author of Made to Crave-21 Day Devotional Series (Lyse Terkeurst).  We will not be able to deny ourselves if we rely on ourselves.  Remember Matthew 26 - Jesus said "...with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

I love what the author states next.."with man, it is impossible to deny yourself, with man, it is impossible to make sacrifices.  With Man, it is impossible to have self-control. But with God, all sacrificial things are possible. With God self-control is possible."  "It's a shift in our thinking that makes the difference here!
We can feel empowered instead of denied.  Rather than focus on the food we crave."

In my opinion, or what I got from this devotional is that....The Focus is on the Power of the Holy Spirit living inside you.  The very Holy Spirit that breathed live into Jesus Christ on the 3rd day!  The Author says..."...we can have God's self control to make a completely different decision, such as a decision for health, a decision for renewed energy, a decision for confidence and peace.  Most importantly a decision that honors BOTH our bodies and God."

  1. Thanks Jenny, I agree. I'm on my weight loss journey again. I'm trying to have a few squares of dark chocolate a day again so that I'm not over doing it!
