The New Mediterranean Diet!
We have embarked on a new chapter in our life....Jeff had a mild heart attack after shoveling snow last Sunday and we now know that he has Cardio Myopathy. So we have to move forward from here. Strengthening his heart with diet and exercise and medications first, hopefully that will be enough to strengthening his heart muscle. The next step would be a defibrillator, and God forbid a heart transplant...but we have come to terms with the diagnosis and are confident in making these lifestyle changes to improve our quality of life.
We have been told to follow a more Mediterranean diet...so I purchased the above book written by Nancy Harmon Jenkins. So far it has been very helpful in giving me some ideas.
In the past I was cooking a lot of French food...now we have moved a bit further south!
I am so grateful to God for these trails in life. I feel closer to my husband than ever before. I am grateful for these trials, because each one we conquer together strengthens our relationship with God, the body of Christ, and each other. So again...this morning I rejoice!!!........as it says.....4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Oh wow! Sorry about your husband. I am grateful he had a wake up before a bigger event happened, as is so often true. Trust God. He didn't give you this experience to not support you, but to allow you to use it for the good. You have the right attitude. And, if I had a Mediterranean diet, I'd love it! Share some recipes?

ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea...I will share recipes and pictures....my latest is a low salt, low fat, pizza, made with a thin crust with a chuncky tomato sauce, mozarella, shredded chicken (or pork), and onion..he loved it....He has lost 11 lbs already this week!
